2019 Reading Wrap-Up

Image
2019, man. It went by so fast. There are some years that seem to crawl by, but this definitely was one that consistently felt fast throughout the year. It definitely was a year of growth and learning for me. I accomplished a lot, tried new things. Excelled, failed, struggled, grew. It was quite the whirlwind, but it set me on a path that I’m excited for. 2020 is a fresh start with new beginnings and I’m ready for it, but before I officially wish 2019 goodbye, I thought I’d share a wrap-up of my reading for the year. via GIPHY I recorded a pretty thorough video with my full recap, so I’m not going to rehash everything I said here. For your convenience, I have attached an infographic I made of my reading stats for the year. To delve a little deeper into what I read in 2019, check out the video below. This post is bound to be a little bit lengthy, so if you're just here for the highlights, allow me to give you the TL;DR: You're going to be seeing more book and writing-related content from me. It’s the end of the year. It’s the end of the decade. It’s the end of various eras of my life. As I have been preparing for the start of 2020, I have become simultaneously nostalgic and also thoughtful of the future. Amidst these ponderings, I’ve started thinking about the goals I have for myself and if the things I am doing now will help me reach those goals. In short, the answer is no. But I know the things I need to do to make those things happen- and it starts with vulnerability. via GIPHY Mmhmm, vulnerability. Exactly the kind of topic that an anxious perfectionist like myself needs to worry about today. Here’s how I got here. Bear with me for some backstory. So, over the summer, much like most of America, I got super into BrenĂ© Brown- I read her book, Daring G

NANOWRIMO Character Writing Tips

Image
Welcome back! Today's post is all about writing meaningful characters. This post was inspired by NANOWRIMO (National Novel Writing Month). For those who don't know, NANOWRIMO is a month-long event that takes place during the month of November. The goal is to write 50,000 words in one month. If you are like me, and you prefer tracking your writing by pages, that equates to about 200 pages. It definitely is a big project, but absolutely is doable. When you think about it, that means you will be writing 6-7 pages per day. This year, I am trying to reach my goal of 200 pages by the end of November. I have been writing a novel for about a year, and I am hoping that this event can help me to finish by November 30th. *Fingers Crossed* Character building is an incredibly important aspect of writing any story. So to help my writing friends out, I have compiled a list of my top ten tips to consider when writing your characters. Who are the most important people to them? How
